CD-ROM Practice Tests
Q: My CD-ROM requires an activation code to be used. Where do I get that?
A: The Activation Key Code is a 10-character code printed on the face of the CD, or on a white sticker affixed to the clear plastic CD-ROM holder. This code is case-sensitive and must be entered using all uppercase letters. If your code does not work, please contact us by email at testprephelp@petersons.com or by phone at 877-TESTPREP, Option 1.

Q: I have installed the practice test software, but I cannot get it to run. What should I do?
A: Any computer that has a firewall, anti-virus software, or a spyware blocker running at the time of the installation may have technical issues running the program. If the computer did have one of the aforementioned applications running, the software will need to be reinstalled. Please uninstall the practice test software, restart the computer, and perform the installation over again with the previously mentioned security systems disabled.

Q: I have installed the software, but I am getting an error message that mentions Java. What do I do?
A: In order for the practice tests to function properly, version 1.4.1 or higher of Java must be installed on your computer.
To check if your computer has the required version of Java, please go to your control panel and double-click on "Java Plug-in." If the Java version is lower than 1.4.1, it will need to be upgraded. If the control panel does not have a "Java Plug-in" icon, then you will need to download Java 1.4.1.
If you need to upgrade or install Java, a free download is available at Java.com.

Q: I tried to run the practice tests from my CD-ROM, but all I see is a black box and a "Java Server Timed Out" error message. What do I do?
A: The black box that you see on the screen is actually normal for the practice test software. The "Java Server Timed Out" error message is usually caused by anti-virus or firewall software that has "Script Blocking" enabled. Script blocking will prevent the practice tests from starting. If you have script blocking active in your anti-virus or firewall program, it will need to be temporarily disabled while you take the practice tests.
